The sumptuous Villa Corinthia hosted Fleur Kelinza’s maiden collection launch this evening in an intimate fashion show, followed with drinks at the Aethenaeum Spa.

The collection consisted mainly of upmarket cocktail dresses, they are wonderfully made using very fine fabrics and consolidating certain trends with elegance. The dresses are designed expertly and mainly using classic styles, ensuring that they could be worn for a few years to come.

A lot of key trends were visible in the outfits – patterns, ruffles, lace, and sequins were predominant materials, mainly combined with beautiful shimmering material; feathers and tulle were also used, adding a touch of showgirl burlesque style. Block colours were another feature, although for a number of dresses the colours pink and black were used together – this combination works wonderfully for summer – giving off a touch of girliness to an elegant outfit.

We went from a figure hugging dress with lacy detail to an elaborate dress with diamonds all over the neckline. Lace, satin, organza, taffeta & chiffon, all extremely contemporary and trendy. Colours were mainly black, red and pink. The coats that walked down the runway made you wish for colder weather, absolutely lovely – double breasted, fur collars and tiny leather linings.

The evening gowns in my opinion where the highlight of the night. Dark colours prevailed – beads that flew sensually on the model’s back and feathers that hugged the body perfectly. The last gown showcased brought confidence and an air of defiance, using a sequin white bridal gown that had a unique ostrich feather train – absolutely original but lovely! Kelinza Couture clearly knows what a girl needs.

From ruffles to gems to glitter to feathers to a “bumble bee” look dress with black fabric flowers, Fleur showcased it all; coming across as a very versatile designer, with her collection leaving no doubts at all about her creativity. With every model wearing a mini top hat to match each garment, it gave every piece a touch of unique high style.

A particular pink/black tulle satin dress which was not only stunning in its own way having the top part of the dress in pink flowy satin and the bottom half in a black scaly skirt but the added embellishments on the neck, back and waistline gave the dress that added chicness. Another gown were embellishments played a huge role in the dress was a statement white embellished ostrich feather gown which had silver embellishments all over the dress together with an ostrich feather train to compliment it

I had the opportunity to ask Fleur Kelinza what inspired such a diverse collection. I couldn’t see a common theme in the collection’s entirety, so I was curious to find out what her say on that was. Interestingly, Fleur told me that there was no one main inspiration source behind the collection, but quite a few random and unexpected sources instead. Hearing that from the designer herself confirmed that the sense of a lacking leitmotif was, in fact, intentional.
Lara Boffa – Boffism

In her own words, the designer spent moments looking out at the sea for inspiration which may have inspired the mermaid-like nature of some of the dresses. The general vibe was an elegant one, with the choice of fabric varying from one piece to the next – satin, lace, tulle, crepe and organza and sometimes even sequinned fabric. The white feathers and sequin combination had a Marchesa and Ralph Lauren flare to it. Fascinators were a recurring piece in the collection, often taking the form of mini-hats.
Tiziana – Rouge Reveries

There where quite a number of cocktail dresses to my liking, especially due to their particular details. A black panel cocktail dress with zip detail at the hem and pink ruffles on one shoulder; black french lace on the shoulders of a midnight blue mini-dress; black organza floral details on a black and gold organza short dress with a puffed skirt; ruffles on the shoulders of a silk baby pink frock and a beautiful sequin detail on the neckline and back of a crinkled baby-pink mini-dress.

Besides the cocktail dresses, Keliza designed a number of very elegant evening gowns in midnight blue, passionate red and crisp white. The white ostrich feathers used for the train of the white evening dress totally stole the show!
