The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Malta kicked off last night at 19:30 at Fort St Elmo. The grand venue has been set up so as to cater for a number of exhibitions ongoing throughout the week on every night including exhibitions, shows and presentations.
Rosemarie Abela presented the first show of the night – La Cupola. The collection draws its inspiration from the Mosta Dome, Malta Skyline and Neo-Classical period.
The collection featured some interesting contrasting techniques using a mix of different fabrics, textures and silhouettes. One of Rosemarie’s main features in previous collections was the use of knitwear and this was a prominent feature again this time round. The billowing fabric on many of the pieces symbolises the grandeur of the dome and added a magical effect on the catwalk. The use of embroidery and tassel details added an interesting touch to the pieces giving off an element of mystique. Some interesting highlights were white high-waisted boxy pants paired with a leather top with flowing pleated wool and the grand finale piece – a white & gold combined skirt & top with leather closing details.
The hair and makeup looks which accompanied this collection were especially beautiful – There were two hairstyles – braided buns placed on each side of the head or big voluminous high top buns on the top in the middle. Both hairstyles added a touch of grandeur – giving off an almost royal effect. The makeup was kept simple but with a defined dark lip that was perfectly complimentary. The lead hair stylist was Flavia Attard whilst the lead makeup artist was Elaine Galea
