The Secret Garden, a surrealist take on headpieces, designed by Adalia B, was presented to a large crowd Monday evening atop the historic Fort St Angleo. A lush runway with tiny green bushes lining the carpet, created a backdrop for the magical creations to come before us.
Some vintage inspired with beading and feathers and some more modern with starched tulle and enlarged lace, an eclectic collage of materials and styles came together as one story of a garden in the designer’s imagination.
Red flowers accented with gold wrapped around the head in a bouquet. Tiny peacock feathers in several serene colour combinations bloomed out of the tops and sides of different pieces, dancing powerfully in the strong wind. A giant starched tulle bow with lace adornments sat atop a pink lace doily for a modern take on 1920s vintage. Philip Traecy inspired creations were constructed in such a way that the flowers and starched tulle wove around one another, giving us an abstract visual of form and movement on the heads of the models. Some surrealist pieces, reminiscent of the great Schiaparelli resembled a lily pad or the skeleton of a long visor, covered in sequins and casting lines stark shadows across the face of the model.
The varieties of shapes, colours, and adornments were endless. Applause couldn’t wait for the end of this show. Amused guests clapped between models, pleased with the art show unfolding before them.
After the show, guests mingled around the venue, sipping cocktails and discussing their favorites from the show. Bloggers rushed to the next venue to prepare their pens mobiles for the next show. There was much excitement to enjoy on Day 3 of MFWA16.
