Launch of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Malta
& Vodafone Red Malta Fashion Awards
Friday 3rd May 2013 – Baystreet, St. Julians
Saturday 4th May 2013 marks the opening of the third edition of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Malta, a week-long celebration of Maltese and international fashion that culminates on Saturday 11th May at the Vodafone RED Malta Fashion Awards at the MFCC in Ta’ Qali.
At the launch event, executive producer Mr. Adrian J. Mizzi explained his satisfaction at the success that Malta Fashion Week and Awards have managed to achieve on an international scale. “When we started out fifteen years ago, our main objective was to elevate the level of professionalism in this industry and put Malta on the international map of fashion. I can safely say that although there is always room for improvement, we have managed to achieve this to an excellent level”, he explained.
Mrs. Bernadette Bonnici Kind speaking on behalf of the main sponsors, Mercedes-Benz, was also very positive about the association with such a high quality event and briefly explained how the brand supports fashion weeks in various other countries, and how Malta’s event is at a similar or even higher level of organisation. This was attested to last year by the numerous foreign personalities that left excellent public testimonials.
Mr. Mizzi gave a detailed explanation of the week’s events (see below), before delving deeper into the main attraction of the week that is Malta Fashion Awards. This year’s Awards event is sponsored by Vodafone Malta and the company’s Brand Manager Ms. Maria Vella Galea, explained how the company views this collaboration. “Vodafone has been an active player in the Maltese community and we always believed that it is our commitment to invest in Malta and its people especially in Music and Arts. That’s why we are extremely proud to be supporting the 15th edition of the Vodafone RED Malta Fashion Awards, being the most anticipated fashion event of the year”, she continued.
Mr. Mizzi continued, “In only three years that Malta Fashion Week has been organised, even though it’s still in its experimental stages, we can proudly say that it already proved to be a sustainable tourism project for the Maltese tourist industry, and the economy in general. Brands invited for Malta Fashion Week opened their business in Malta, guests even bought property and we managed to bring over to our shores media, designers, and stylists from at least fifteen different countries for their first time. This year we had a much bigger interest for foreign participation from a diverse range of countries from Sweden to Nigeria.” He continued to stress the importance of widespread support. “This is an event that can give a lot to our country, only if proper investment and attention is given, which investment will be spent locally, generating income and investment. After the said week we will begin discussion and put the ball rolling in the government’s court. This event pays back to the local industry not to individuals, and it deserves more attention and investment. He concluded.
