As today we are exactly one month away from the opening date of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Malta 2016, we are very happy to launch the official programme for this year’s very exciting events lineup.
The programme is available here: https://www.fashionweek.com.mt/fashion-week-2016-programme-of-events/ and from this same page everyone can reserve invites or tickets for the publicly accessible events. Reservations are treated on a first come first served basis and due to demand far exceeding the spaces available, it is highly unlikely that all reservations will be entertained. Mr. Adrian J. Mizzi expressed his delight at the huge support being shown by the thousands of loyal followers, and expressed his dismay at never being able to find venues that are large enough and at the same time glamorous enough to host everyone who would like to attend. “We are seeing a lot of anticipation building up already and are expecting over subscriptions due to the huge demand that keeps growing every year”, he explained.
Those that don’t manage to get their hands on invites for the weekday events can attend the Chamilia Malta Fashion Awards Show which is expected to attract thousands and is being held at the largest Parade Ground at the same Fort Saint Angelo on Saturday 21st May. Tickets for this event may be purchased through the link at the bottom of the same page.
The week actually kicks off in Valletta, with the New Designers fashion show being held at Republic Street in front of Teatru Rjal. This will be followed that evening with the lighting up of the Photography Exhibition at Pjazza San Gorg, Valletta, which remains open throughout the week and may be accessed freely at any time.
Day 2 then takes us to Fort Saint Angelo where on Sunday evening there is The Point fashion show and opening of an exhibition of printed silk scarves by Saz Mifsud.
On Monday 16th May we see four back to back events consisting of an exhibition launch and three catwalk shows at different venues within the Fortress. First to open is a catwalk show of the collection of original head pieces by Adalia B., then Sam Selby launches her Sirena collection of handmade jewellery. This is to be followed by a catwalk show of bridal fashion from the Anna Romysh Haute Couture 2017 Collection and after this Gaetano presents his Nymph Collection. All these events are in different setup locations around Fort Saint Angelo.
Tuesday’s evening opens with a fashion show from the Maltese label Parascandalo. Other guests that evening will also get a chance to appreciate fabulous artistic hand painted art on silk gowns and other clothing apparel by Rosita and cocktail and formal gowns by Claudia Goagara. These new creative artists are making their debut presence in MFWA this year.
Maltese designer fashion label Carla Grima Atelier present their Ophelia S/S 2016 collection on Wednesday 18th, followed by another fashion show from Eymeric Francois, who is back to MFWA 2016 from Paris by popular demand after his first presence last year. In between these two shows, guests will have the opportunity to admire exclusive art on men’s and women’s shoes presented by the Maltese artistic designer Désirée.
On Thursday we have three other excellent shows lined up, starting off the evening with a fashion forward collection from Freeze Frame, followed by Malta’s most controversial Ritienne Zammit with her Je Suis A/W 2016 collection and then a first for MFWA – three collections designed for the curvy woman’s figure: Marina Rinaldi and Elena Miro from Italy and Basler from Germany. These three brands are now represented in Malta by Lilly Mae.
Fashionistas would probably be running on low by Friday but not for long as there are three mega shows lined up for this evening. The first event is a show of Malta’s very own Gagliardi collection, followed by Milica Trickovic from Serbia and the aptly named Insomnia – a glamorous collection of gowns from Nilara (Nilay Camilleri). The evening will be closing with a private reception hosted by the main sponsors of Malta Fashion Week – Mercedes Benz.
This is the first time the schedule includes so many multiple events on the same evening and guests are expected to move and mingle from one location to another. Only verified ticket holders will be allowed to be seated and standing room may also be subject to availability. No entry into the Fortress will be allowed to anyone without a valid ticket for that evening.
After the weekday events of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Malta 2016 draw to a close, thousands of people are expected to attend the Chamilia Malta Fashion Awards on Saturday 21st May. This year’s event will be shorter than previous editions and with a faster pace to keep audience participation peaking throughout. The venue itself creates an opportunity for a different event format than before and this is being used to the full effect to be able to host thousands of people without becoming too crowded.
When all the shows are over it’s finally time for everyone to let their hair down and party into the small hours of the night at the highly anticipated after party. Entrance to this VIP event is strictly by invite tokens which are available from staff on the night.
Today we start the final countdown to the biggest fashion event of the year and Malta’s largest fashion week ever. See you there!!
